The Sutro Baths was an indoor swimming complex with a large saltwater pool that was filled by the incoming ocean tide, plus a smaller freshwater pool. It was built in 1896 and eventually failed as a business concern, and the building burned down in 1966. The ruins are now a part of the National Parks system.
